THE MAN WHO STOPPED TIME

An interactive exhibition for children and adults about Muybridge’s legendary series of photographs of a running horse.

In a playful way, it explains the principles of animation machines before the arrival of film.

DOES A GALLOPING HORSE EVER REACH A MOMENT WHEN NONE OF ITS HOOVES TOUCH THE GROUND?

This exhibition tells the story of how people searched for the answer to this question 150 years ago. At the same time, it aims to show — and perhaps even evoke — the fascination people had back then with movement, vision, and the exploration of both.

A fascination that quite literally became the driving force for many researchers, inventors, and dreamers.

Target audience
School-age children and their parents. The exhibition is designed to engage both children and adults, making it a great experience for the whole family.

Exhibition space
We can adapt the exhibition to almost any venue. The recommended space is approximately 100–200 m².

Animation workshops
We also offer animation workshops as part of the exhibition. Participants create short films using stop-motion workstations or animation machines. The workshop is ideal for school classes, art school students and other organised groups. The recommended duration is 90 minutes.

Under the guidance of experienced tutors, participants try different animation techniques and learn how animation machines work. They receive their finished film by email after the workshop.
