How to Teach Animation
A practical workshop focused on using animation in education.
Who Is It For?
This workshop is suitable for cultural and educational institutions such as art schools, primary and secondary schools, as well as galleries and museums.
What You Will Learn
Participants gain basic theoretical and practical skills that they can immediately apply when working with children.
You will be introduced to the principles of animation, film language, and simple techniques such as drawn animation, stop motion, or working with unconventional materials. You will try creating your own short animations and learn how to guide children from the initial idea all the way to a finished film.
We will also advise you on what equipment to use for filming and capturing images, how to effectively assemble accessible equipment, or recommend a suitable solution. At the same time, we will train you in our proven technical system and in working with the animation stations we have developed for various stop-motion techniques, such as multiplane animation, lightbox animation, and 3D animation.
The workshop also offers inspiration for interdisciplinary teaching, specific assignments according to pupils’ age, and tips on how to achieve a high-quality, publishable result. It also includes working with sound, the basics of editing, and an introduction to copyright.
The workshop is in line with the Czech Framework Educational Programme and its extension towards multimedia education, as well as with the secondary-school field 82–41–M/17, Multimedia Production, a four-year graduation programme.
